Answers about creating, exporting, and troubleshooting crossword puzzles
This tool builds printable crossword-style puzzles from your word + clue pairs. It runs entirely in your browser—no sign‑up or server needed.
Use one word–clue pair per line.
1
Type the word first, then a space, then the clue.
2
Example:
ELEPHANT Largest land mammal
(case-insensitive; words are uppercased automatically).3
Avoid punctuation in the word; use letters A–Z for best results.
4
Provide at least 5–8 words for better layouts.
The app aligns your lines automatically and removes duplicate words.
Common reasons:
Too few overlaps: Each word must share at least one letter with another.
Duplicate words: Every word must be unique.
Very short list: Add more words to increase intersection chances.
Non-letter characters in words: Stick to A–Z letters for consistency.
If it still fails, add more words or vary letters to increase intersections.
The generator places the first word at the center, then builds intersecting words either Across or Down where letters match. Numbers appear on the first cell of each placed word.
Multiple layouts are created and ranked by fill and balance. Use Prev/Next to cycle through them.
